Members of the Rotary Club put together 40 kits to help end trachoma among young indigenous school children around Alice Springs. The business people of Bega contributed generously.

Rotary clubs around Australia are taking part in this project. Trachoma is an eye infection that can lead to blindness. Australia is the only developed country in the world with this disease.

The kits comprise products such as soap and holder, towels, toothpaste and holder, shampoo, combs and a few extras to encourage young school goers to improve hygiene and reduce the incidence of trachoma. The project targeted young indigenous communities through schools around Alice Springs.
Members of Bega Rotary - Dorothea, Maz, Suzanne and Chris - have been busy sewing and gathering supplies. A special thanks to Maz for her organisation and hard work.
Also a big thank you for the generosity of business people in Bega for their contribution. The Sapphire Community Pantry, the Reject Shop, Plevey’s Pharmacy, Coles and Big W all donated products for the bags and we thank them so much for supporting this worthy cause.
A very generous gift from Dr MacKinnon has funded the postage and helped in other ways towards the End Trachoma project. We can't thank him enough!
Rotary members and partners have also individually contributed time and funds.
Working together we can make a difference.
