The Bega Showground Land Management and the Rotary Club of Bega are partnering in a project to replace the standalone amenities block at the the Bega Showground.The new amenities block will be larger with modern facilities and importantly will have better disabled access.
During the Tathra fires of 2018 and the 2019/20 summer bushfires, the Bega Showgrounds were the primary evacuation centre but were found to be inadequate and too outdated to cope with the number of evacuees and the duration of their stay.
Additional toilet and shower facilities that were brought in on a temporary basis were not ideal and were difficult to clean. The new amenities block will also include some laundry facilities.
