Bega Rotary is partnering with the Rotary Club of Canberra-Weston Creek and the Brindabella Rotaract Club to facilitate a Plant Replacement Day in Cobargo on the 14th November 2020. The event will enable the three Rotary clubs to gift some 4,500 plants to the fire-affected Cobargo community.
The plants have been grown over winter by Rotarians and volunteers in Canberra, and donated plants were sourced by members of the RC of Bega. Most of the plants in Canberra will be sorted and packed for transport in Canberra with the aid of the Council on the Ageing ACT and the Men's Shed in Hughes. A grant from the RAWCS National Bushfire Recovery Fund will cover costs for Bega Rotary's famous BBQ, which will be supplied by local Cobargo businesses.
The project itself is being led by Cobargo Green Recovery inc. (CGR), a team of which the President is Tania Lingard, Cobargo’s 2019 Citizen of the Year.
CGR and the three Rotary clubs are collaborating in the planning of the community plant gifting event which will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The Red Cross local branch will offer morning tea, the RC of Bega will provide the BBQ, and there will be live music and a lolly scatter event for children.
There will also be a small formal ceremony at 10:00 AM. The Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain has confirmed she will attend, along with Bega Valley Shire Councillor Tony Allen and community leaders from the Cobargo community recovery effort.
